Following last year’s acclaimed production of Korczak, the haunting true story of orphan’s trapped in the Warsaw Ghetto during the height of Nazi Oppression, St. Ives Youth Theatre’s 2006 summer production tackles the themes of greed and unsubstantiated celebrity.

The Bubble, co-written by long-term Coronation Street script writer Julian Roach, is a musical is based upon the story of the South Sea Company and the collapse of it’s shares in 1720 which led to a national scandal. Despite being set nearly 300 years ago, the parallels for today’s world of the dot.com bubble, Chantelle and Big Brother are clear.

As well as developing stage and production skills amongst young people, St. Ives Youth Theatre also believes that each piece produced provides an opportunity for it’s members to understand and explore the issues at it’s core. To further these aims, the company is visiting London this weekend to see the trading floor at the London Metal Exchange, to visit the Bank of England and to enjoy tea in Harrods at the invitation of Mohammed al Fayed!

“Our visit to Poland gave our company a glimpse into another world” commented Jonathan Salt (SIYT’s Artistic Director), “and this visit will bring alive places and people that we only usually see through the media. Seeing the Bank of England and hopefully meeting with Mr. al Fayed will again give our cast a glimpse into a different facet of the world and a day to remember. It’s not everyday that one of the world’s highest profile entrepreneurs offers you tea and biscuits!”
