St Ives Youth Theatre will make their long awaited debut at the their new home, the revitalised Corn Exchange in St Ives during Remembrance Week.

'‘Journey’s End’ is set in the trenches at Saint-Quentin, France, in 1918 towards the end of the First World War, Journey's End gives a glimpse into the experiences of the officers of a British Army infantry company in World War I. The entire story plays out in the officers' dugout over four days from 18 March 1918 to 21 March 1918.

“It's an incredibly powerful piece ” said SIYT’s Artistic Director,Jonathan Salt, “and to produce Journey's End as our opener in the Corn Exchange during the Festival of Remembrance and in St. Ives 900th Anniversary Year is a great opportunity.” The company will be donating all ticket sales for the performance on Armistice Day (Thursday 11th November) to Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

Preparing for the production has involved becoming familar with the 'short back and sides' haircut, visiting the Imperial War Museum and significant investment in the hire of a magnificent professional set that will recreate the Saint-Quentin trenches in the Corn Exchange. "It's a magnificent experience for both cast and audience to be immersed in this almost alien world" added Salt. During the performance, the cast even tuck in to hot rations prepared on set.
