St. Ives Youth Theatre completed it’s final performance of Brother Jacques to a standing ovation. The company’s final performance of the brilliant musical telling the story of brothers, French Prisoners during the Napoleonic Wars, coincided with Bastille Day – the anniversary of the French Revolution.
The production set many technical challenges for the cast and backstage team – staging a guillotine beheading, re-enacting a naval battle, a public flogging, 150 period costumes and three young actors between the ages of 4 and 6 years of age. These challenges were successfully met head on and the resulting show was visually stunning, engaging and very emotional with many outstanding individual performances. Once again, the company has taken on a script from outside the mainstream and produced a show that takes the audience to world away from their own experience and ask questions of them while entertaining and dazzling.
The cast were presented to the Mayors of both Huntingdon and St. Ives and the Head of St. Peters School, Val Ford, who commented of the cast “they are so talented”. Many members of the audiences commented on the brilliant costumes and the quality of the young cast.
St. Ives Youth Theatre’s next production will be ‘The Widows’ in February 2008.
