St. Ives Youth Theatre is preparing to unleash a brilliant colourful riot on it’s audience in early July.
The Bubble is an hilarious and exuberant romp through 18th century London exploring the biggest financial crash in history, a story of love and lust, greed and corruption. This promenade theatre will bring the audience right into the heart of the performance, providing a dazzling experience that will be quiet unlike conventional musicals.
The Bubble, co-written by long-term Coronation Street script writer Julian Roach, is a musical is based upon the story of the South Sea Company and the collapse of it’s shares in 1720 which led to a national scandal. Despite being set nearly 300 years ago, the parallels for today’s world of the dot.com bubble, Chantelle and Big Brother are clear.
Described as ‘a hugely enjoyable show’, the action begins in 18th century London's Bedlam asylum, where the idle rich gather to gawp at the amusing lunatics. One of the madmen believes that he can make jewels and is sure to become rich. In reality, he is just blowing soap bubbles.
