Youngsters from a local youth theatre are set to take centre stage, complete with new costumes and a fantastic new set – thanks to Norwich and Peterborough Building Society (N&P).

Jonathan Salt is the artistic director from St Ives Youth Theatre (SIYT). When the charity was in need of new set displays and costumes for a future performance, Jonathan turned to his local branch for help. Mrs Michelle Oakley, customer advisor at N&P’s St Ives branch at 4 Sheep Market, offered to help by donating the costumes and set.

St Ives Youth Theatre is a registered charity, which was established in 2001 and is based in St. Ives. Its aim is to provide children in secondary education with the opportunity to develop their communication skills through performance. Up to 60 local youngsters between the age of 11 and 17 attend regular practice sessions for forthcoming performances, such as ‘Vision’, which is on the 16th - 19th July, at the Burgess Hall. There are not only budding actors and actresses at the theatre, as it couldn’t survive without the stage management, technical, marketing, costume and make-up teams.

Jonathan said: “We are extremely grateful to N&P for the support we have received. All of our staff volunteer their time, and we rely a lot on donations and sponsorship, so to have the costumes and the set donated by N&P was a huge help. Many thanks from all at the St Ives Youth Theatre.”

Michelle said: “It’s great to see so many young people so passionate about what they do. I am delighted that we have helped so much towards to the show, I’m sure it’ll be a show stopping performance, I can’t wait to see it. I hope they all remember us when they hit the big time in the West End!”
