St Ives Youth Theatre visited the plague village in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District that is the inspiration for the emotional musical Eyam. Eyam tells the moving story of a village that decided to cut itself off from the rest of the world rather than risk spreading the deadly bubonic infection to others. 2nd July 2011 - SUSPECTED PLAGUE CARRIER STONED BY MOB IN ST IVES
Shoppers in St Ives were treated to a reminder of how suspected plague carriers were treated in the 1660's. Cast members from SIYT's production Eyam re-enacted the mobbing of a woman that they believed may have been carrying the dreaded infection. She appeared on Bridge Street only to be greeted by shouts of fear and abuse. Hounded onto Market Hill, she was 'stoned' in front of bemused shoppers.want to read more... |

Cambridgeshire based Youth Theatre SIYT announce their return to the Edinburgh Fringe this year with the electrifying musical, VISION at the Sweet Grand in the ECA (Venue 186). VISION premiered in March 2002, followed by a CD launch at Drury Lane in London, sponsored by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group. St. Ivo Maths Teacher, John Lane, cycled for 6 days from St. Ives to Edinburgh to see St. Ives Youth Theatre perform their highly acclaimed production of ‘Korczak’ at the Edinburgh Fringe. John made the arduous 360 mile journey from St. Ives to Edinburgh – a trip that many car driver would find daunting - to visit the Festival and to see the debut performance by SIYT.
